Gallatin County ACES Team wins 2nd place in the state for the 300 boundaried (public) division! A couple of weeks ago, as half of the team were scrambling to prepare graduation speeches, our team received a surprising email that our state host, EIU, was able to host the state competition virtually. Gallatin County had qualified for the state competition by receiving 3rd place in our sectional competition the week we went into quarantine back in March. So, as 8 of our 14 members were saying goodbye to high school with their private graduation appointments, they were also logging on to take their final WYSE/ACES tests. We received the results this week, they were:
1st place Durand High School
2nd place Gallatin County High School
3rd Edwards County High School
4th Eastland High School
5th United School District 304
We also had six individual medal winners, breaking a seven year school record for the state event. The individual winners were: Morgan Schmitt 4th place in Biology, Abbie Keasler 5th place in Biology, Blake Seely 4th place in Math and 5th place in Chemistry, Brock Seely 4th place in Engineering Graphics, and Jayde Pennington 5th place in Math.
Two of our retiring seniors end the year earning a spot as a top 10 medalist in Gallatin County School history. Kallie Keasler ranks 7th on the list with 9 individual medals and 4 team medals (1st, 1st, 3rd, and 2nd) and Blake Seely climbed to the 3rd spot after this event with 12 individual medals and 3 team medals (1st, 3rd, and 2nd).
Brock Seely became the 5th Hawk to receive two consecutive state medals (2019 and 2020) and Blake Seely is the 4th Hawk to double medal at the state event.
This year’s team joins a long list of teams to place at the state event. Gallatin County placed 2nd in 2013, 4th in 2015, 1st in 2016, 2017, and 2018, 3rd in 2019, and now 2nd in 2020.
Even though our retiring seniors were part of the 2018 1st place team, probably their greatest accomplishment was their successful campaign to SAVE WYSE in 2018. Many more Gallatin County students will have the honor to participate in ACES because of their efforts.

At this time Mrs. Lowery is wanting to get an idea of how many are interested, possible tryout information will be sent to those on her email list.

Message from Mrs Anita Golden “Hawks Lunch Bunch”
Due to the Memorial Day Holiday May 25 on this Monday, the Hawks Lunch Bunch will not be open for delivery or pick up meals. We will back on schedule Wednesday the 27th as normal at all locations!!

This is a reminder that our Class of 2020 “graduation” will begin tomorrow! When you arrive for your appointment, please enter through the gym doors. We can’t wait to see everyone!

Hawks Lunch Bunch summer plans are set!!
We have been working with the G. C. School District to make the transition from “Yellow Meals On Wheels” to “Hawks Lunch Bunch “ meals for the summer lunch program.
Here is the current schedule:
New Haven and Ridgway meals will be delivered by the school van. New Haven meals will be at your regular pick up point by 11:00am. The van will then go to Ridgway to deliver meals at the ball field by approximately 12:00noon.
Equality Fire Dept. will be picking up and taking Equality’s meals to their Fire Station for pick up by approximately 11:30.
Old Shawneetown meals will be delivered by Nell Rosser, Village Clerk. Time for that delivery will be 11:30 to 11:45am.
The Country Route meals that G.C. Resource Officers deliver, now will be continued with Liz Hood of Egyptian Health Dept.. Time for delivery will try to stay the same as the regular schedule.
New Shawneetown meals will not be distributed on the Mall. They will be handed out at our regular site: 188 Church St., Ohio Valley General Baptist Fellowship Hall in Shawneetown. The time for pickup meals will be 12:00noon.
Beginning May 18 the meals will be delivered or handed out Monday and Wednesday each week through August 12. Monday each will receive 2 meals and on Wednesday 3 meals will be received.
We are hopeful this transition will go smoothly. Your patience will be greatly appreciated!
This a lunch program only, no breakfast will be served during the summer.
Our menu will not be posted daily due to the availability of products changing.
Please be assured that all the meals will be made to the meal plan established by the State Board of Education.
We are looking forward to serving Gallatin County this summer.
